Earth Day 2015 – Inspiring Your Travel Choices

I’ll freely admit that this year’s Earth Day event almost passed my notice…….as it has every year since I first became aware of it.

Earth Day 2015

As timid and passive as it may sound, I am as beholden to the constraints of routine and day-to-day issues as anybody. Which means that, for now, I am just pleased to say I did switch all the lights off during WWF’s Earth Hour on Saturday 28th March. It’s not enough though and I need to do more, for my own conscience as much as for the wider cause. We’re at a stage where it could go either way – in a time of convenience and instant gratification, it’s not the easiest thing to incorporate ‘green’ thinking and practices into our everyday lives.

It doesn’t help that some ecological issues are still fiercely debated at the highest level, and what with cries and counter-accusations of ignorance, conspiracy, corporate greed, idealism, economic and political control and such-like, it’s little wonder that many people remain disengaged. However, in certain areas, such as in the leisure and tourism markets, eco-savvy consumers are increasing in numbers, and are demanding more sustainability from their chosen destinations.

So, in view of that, whilst we’re all planning our next break overseas, why don’t we take a few moments to be informed and inspired by some of the projects that are taking place around the world, in Earth Day Events? It could well be the first step of the most important journey we’ll ever make.
